A RARE 'LE BOULENGE' CHRONOGRAPH BY HOLDEN & PITKEN, instrument no. 85,
dated for 1907, previously the property of ICI Nobel and used at their Ardeer laboratory up until the 1960s helping to develop their range of hand loading powders and propellants for small arms ammunition, comprising of four main dials and instruments attached to a 23in. x 36in. mahogany back-board together with various brass switches and side hinged for wall mounting, together with a laquered brass stand and other accessories, the whole believed functional but untested

Provenance: This type of instrument was the standard chronograph used for ballistics through until the 1950s and was used worldwide. It is described in detail with diagrams and photos in the HMSO 'Text book of small arms' (1929, pp.337-340 + plates), and in Greener's 'The Gun' (9th ed. 1910 pp.314-316)
